Ritchie Bros Auctioneers

Ritchie Bros is the premier heavy equipment auctioneers in the world. If you have never been to a Ritchie Bros auction you owe it to yourself just for the experience. Ritchie is to the auction world what Caterpillar is to heavy equipment. They are the 800 pound gorilla bar none.

TIPS:

1) While Ritchie Bros conducts the auctions, they do not arrange transportation of the equipment. Contact us directly for help.

2) They will usually have a contracted mechanic onsite for disassembly of equipment whom you pay directly.

3) If you need a crane for some reason, then you definitely must hire and pay for this separately. Sometimes a forklift or loader may be available for your use but not always (it may or may not be free).

4) Ritchie Bros staff will frequently help with the loading of most equipment but not all. If you have any questions contact the local Yard Manager.

5) All equipment must be paid in full BEFORE it can leave the site. Never order equipment picked-up until you have verified payment. Ritchie Bros will not allow equipment to leave without payment .

6) Have a plan before you go. Don't get caught up in emotions.

7) American auctioneers have a unique tone and phrasing. Listen carefully to get an idea of what is being said and how to bid. Watch other auctions before your equipment comes up for sale. It is very important to understand where the bid is at now versus how much more the auctioneer is asking for you to "get the bid".

8) Bring paper and pencil or pen for taking notes.

9) They have refreshment stands, so you can get a bite to eat or something to drink.

10) There are now many Ritchie Bros internet buyers, so you may never see your competition. If you are buying via internet, it behooves you to have someone do a pre-inspection of any equipment you intend to bid on. Hiwide Transport can arrange this for a fee. This is very much buyer beware; the phrase is, "As is, Where is." If it is broke in half - you own both pieces. Most heavy haulers require the equipment to be operational to ease the loading and unloading process, otherwise it's a big boat anchor. This means if the equipment needs a new battery in order to start you need to know it and arrange for it to be done - otherwise you will typically see an addtional charge for the haul.

11) Antifreeze! If you're buying in coastal or southern regions, check the antifreeze before shipping through cold country.

12)BEWARE that if you search for Richie Bros (misspelled) you may come to bogus sites.
